Rafael Hanuman

Rafael Vieira, Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil, July 1977. Known as "Rafael Hanuman", he is a pioneer visual artist in digital image editing for the Brazilian textile industry, an expert in Expanded Gamut printing and OpenSource software.

Born in the province of Santa Catarina, which was, at the time, the largest textile center in Latin America, he worked with textile design in the first Brazilian industrial incursions into CAD/CAM media. He helped create digital industrial processes and define standards, by which the industry went from mechanical-analog to entirely digital.

Visual artist and political activist in the industrial field, he wrote about the industry and textile creation methods from a political perspective. He posted texts and drawings to local newspapers, magazines with a socialist ideology and Islamic publications. He sought to establish criteria by which non-aligned industry should move into the globalized world.

A socialist activist, he became involved in the concepts of urban intervention preached by Oscar Niemeyer, Jaime Lerner and Stenio Ubirajara Vieira from university, in his studies in Architecture and Urbanism, and in the planning departments of the municipalities where he worked. A

student leader with a social democratic ideology, he was initially affiliated with the PSDB, with political training at the Teotônio Vilela Institute, and later joined the Green Party of Brazil, and adopted the concept of political change based on sustainable urban intervention.

Close to the Workers' Party, the son of a mother who was a federal auditor at the Ministry of Labor and a father who was a labor lawyer, he reverted to Islam at the age of 27, going on to defend the so-called non-alienated countries. He worked with unions and trade union movements as a contract artist for ideological labour panels and newspaper drawings.

He was a commentator on union-owned community radio stations, where he evaluated political and economic movements in cities with textile-based activity.



== PROFESSIONAL CONTRIBUTION TO THE TEXTILE INDUSTRY ==

• Development of the Lineature Relationship Table for reticulated images and cylinder meshes and silk-screen meshes, which made possible the simulation of halftones for any type of ink.

• Development of the Colour Separation Process for complex images, which made possible the separation of bitmap images and photos in any number of colours necessary for textile printing.

• Development of the Degree Table for polychromes with any number of colours and any type of ink, which made possible the elimination of the moiré effect on printed fabrics.
